Letter from the President
September 2010
Greetings,
Members!
Ann McBride's time as President has come to an end. For six
years, she stepped up to the plate to keep the organization going and
on-track. After all that work, she's earned the right to pass it on to
someone else and I'm excited to be that person.
The organization has undergone some re-structuring with the primary goal of increasing member participation.
Artists
have to grow our perspective and create work that reflects our
impressions in self-involved processes. When we work with others, we are
rewarded in many ways and VAA provides it's members with such
opportunities.
For example, the more we understand how to put together an exhibition, the more successful we are in talking to galleries and speaking their language. Involvement with the VAA Exhibitions Committee allows members to learn those kinds of things. Also, the
VAA Publicity and Community Relations Committee allows members a way to
make connections they wouldn't otherwise be able to do on their own.
Other opportunities to network exist within the VAA Programs Committee.
As
we go forward, members wanting to be more involved in the Houston art
community will be provided specific jobs for which they may volunteer.
Members who have wanted to become more involved but didn't quite know
how to, now have opportunities. Just ask!
I look forward to seeing you at our 2010-2011 season kick-off program at Canal Street Gallery on Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 6:30 PM.
Also, join VAA members afterwards for a dutch treat dinner at Ninfa's on Navigation which is close by Canal Street Gallery. Canal Street Gallery Ninfa's on Navigation
The images below were taken at the VAA reception for the 27th Juried Open Exhibition which was held at Williams Tower Gallery in April. We had a great turnout and it was a wonderful installation. The award winners are listed below.
